Oil study of detail from Caravaggio's "Supper at Emmaus"

kevin gough www.goughpaint.blogspot.com

Oil on cancas 8 x 6 inches. Pleased by the last work
I decided to try my hand at describing some detail from Caravaggio's
"Supper at Emmaus", it is of course much to modern to be an accurate study
but I am satisfied all the same that all my work to date has allowed me to
paint this without any great difficulty.

Thanks for looking :)

Oil study of detail from a Guido Reni.

oil on oilboard 34 x 18 cm

This is a study of the face of Deineara from a Guido Reni
Oil on oilboard 6 x 4 inches. This started as an exercise that I wasn't
really taking seriously. I had a very small canvas and just figured I'd scribble a bit and
very quickly I became caught up in the work. Its easy of course when you have a picture of the original work by Reni to study from, so I can't actually take any credit for this. However it was alla prima and I was surprised to get some resemblance of the original without going to any great lengths. Mostly I used raw umber, burnt sienna and cadmium yellow. A very slight touch of rose madder to heighten the reds.

The Deutsches Museum

kevin gough www.goughpaint.blogspot.com

A study of the Deutsches Museum done in pencil while standing in the queue to get in..
The building is under renovation at the moment so the top of this tower was all
that could be seen sticking out of a mass of scaffolding and plastic wrapping.

Portrait of a homeless man..

Drawing by kevin gough www.goughpaint.blogspot.com

I was lucky enough to pay a visit to Munich lately.
This is a study of a gentleman who was sitting outside the Hauptbahnhof,
he sat so still for ages he made for a really easy sketch.

Thanks for looking :)
